Started with Carter Subaru in March 2011 as Sales/Finance Manager with a specialty in Sales Training.
I have been in the Automotive Industry since 1979. I sold cars for the first 14 years of my career and from there moved into Management, both Sales & F&I. Along the way I also owned my own consulting company where I worked with auto dealerships assisting them in improving their processes and increasing sales and more importantly raising customer satisfaction.
Coming to work at Carter Motors has been a dream-come-true for me because I get to practice my biggest professional passion of working with an excellent team to improve sales processes and pass on the many things that I have learned throughout my career that helped make me successful. I love people and working with people, especially people that are passionate about what they do, whether it be sales, service, or the driver of the dealership shuttle. I am a believer that buying a car is and should be a FUN and EASY Process. I get tremendous satisfaction seeing a customer leave the store with keys to a new or used VW or Subaru in hand and a smile on their face - the smile on their face being the most satisfying to me.
Hobbies: Organic gardening, making handcrafted organic soaps, riding on the back of our Harley-Davidson Road King, road trips to wineries, and scuba diving in warm water!
Home town seattle washington. I started
with carter Subaru december 2001 as sales consultant. This was my first
job in the automotive industry and sales. I decided to work with Carter
Subaru while I was researching cars. I read what people and experts were
saying, what they liked and disliked about their vehicles. Subarus were
always highly recommended by both. While researching Subaru stores, Carter
was always at the top of both list. After 10 years, I must say Subaru
has not disappointed me. People Love their Subarus.
My Hobbies include Traveling, Golf and most of all my kids who keep
me very busy when I am not here. We Love the Outdoors, Washington offers
so many activities, Beaches, Mountains and even deserts.
Graduated from Edmonds High School
and Seattle Pacific University. Prior to selling cars I was in the insurance
business. Before Subaru I sold Saturn, Volvo, Saab, Infiniti and Lexus.
I came to Carter because I wanted to work for a locally owned family
oriented owner who cares what people think about their dealership. Four
of the last five years I have qualified for Subaru's Summit for peak
performers. Personally I am the father to four wonderful children. We
live in Ballard in the same home since 1988. When not at work I am an
avid fisherman and love to be outdoors in "The Great Northwest".
I've been with the Carter Family since February of 2006. I have been driving Subaru's since 2000 and including the 2 Tribeca's my wife's driven/owned, I've owned 7 different ones. I grew up and spent my 1st 30 years living in Anchorage, AK. I got my 1st Subaru up there and it went anywhere I ever needed it to go with no hiccups and a fun, enjoyable, reliable ride. That's why I'm here now selling them, it started the bug... I moved over to Carter after 15+ years with REI co-op and feel a lot of similarities to business philosophy and certainly appreciate that the clientele is similar minded. Good quality built to last. I'm married 17+ years and have 3 kids-2 sons; 15 and 11 and a 6 year old daughter. I like to hike, camp, bicycle (both mountain and road ) and enjoy road trips in my Subaru's. I have been snowboarding since 1984 and am both proud and happy to be doing what I do. I'm lucky to represent a great brand and work with a strong local family organization. Subaru makes great AWD cars that get you where you need to go with no fuss and a smooth, reliable ride.
I've been with Carter Subaru since Nov 2008. Prior to coming here, I had a career in the US Army full of excitement, lots of travel, many cold nights, and some pretty good food. I had many different jobs in the Army, starting out as an Environmental Health Inspector, and then going into Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Warfare Defense. We can talk about what that means on another day. My career highlight was becoming a Drill Sergeant. The stories I could tell you about being a Drill Sergeant would just bust your side in laughter and leave you in tears. Take me up on that. You will love it. After retirement, I slowed my life down a little with a stopover at Walgreen's Drugstores where I worked in management for a little over six years. Having my prescription fill of pushing drugs and retailing, I thought selling cars would be a great transition to the next phase of my life. Carter Subaru has been a great place to work. If things here continue as they have so far, I'll be telling my grandkids about the day I retired from selling cars.
Within six months we picked up the subaru franchise and I was the first sales manager over the next eight years. Over the next 35 years we were either first or second in sales on the West Coast. I have spent years in sales management, financing, and sales. My accomplishments include peak performer in management and sales with top sales over a period of five straight years.
I have a Bachelor of Arts in History and minor in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin.
In my spare time, I enjoy gardening,
reading historical novels (particularly Naval History 1790-1850) and
spending time with my grandchildren. I started my career with Carter
in 1976 when this store was a preowned VW lot.
I graduated from Shorewood High School then received a degree in Computer Aided Drafting from ITT. I spent 12 years in the restaurant business where I did everything from serving to management. After that I decided I wanted to try something a little different and went to the car business. I worked with Honda for 8 years at two different dealerships. From Honda I came to Carter Subaru where I am loving it! I currently work in the Internet department where I enjoy getting my customers a great car and great price.
When I am not at work I enjoy spending my time raising my beautiful kids, watching them grow and learn. I have twin girls and little boy who make me happy.
I've been a professional salesperson in the automotive industry since October of 1998. Don't hold it against me but I'm from Canada, a Canuck, born in Vancouver. I married my husband Howard, a US native, over 30 years ago and he always wanted to return to the States. We moved our family to Mukilteo in 2003 and I left the Ford store that gave me my start in the business and went to work for Lexus of Seattle. I enjoyed over seven years there and loved the experience of building relationships with many wonderful people. I am a very committed person and it took over three years for me to change dealerships but that time came and I haven't looked back. Thanks to many more amazing people making awesome decisions to own a Subaru I earned the Top Salesperson of the year for 2011, my first full year with Carter. For me, sales is not selling but building long term relationships, making the buying experience enjoyable and assisting buyers to make informed and intelligent decisions for their vehicle needs. My greatest accomplishment, however, is raising four children of whom I am extremely proud. The oldest three, Howard, Ashley and Clayton are all married and making their way in the world without help from the family payroll. Our youngest, Brittany, is on an adventure teaching fourth grade in Roatan, Honduras before she settles down in the real world. Shes created a blog, brittanyphillipsinhonduras.weebly.com, if you want to check out her class.
The empty nest has definitely been an adjustment for us but we're getting used to having food in the fridge and clean bathrooms although we do miss those crazy-busy, fun filled years. The next phase will be grandchildren and I've heard that can even be more fun!
Thank you for taking the time to get to know me, I hope you will introduce yourself and allow me to get to know you as well.
I am a Seattle native, living my
first 35 years on Queen Anne or in Ballard. My employment history with
Carter Motors dates back to when I was detailing cars while still in
high school. After owning and operating my own detail shop, and subsequently
being an arm of Carter Motors for more than a decade, I sold my business
to try my hand on the sales floor. 12 years later I am still at it.
I take a great deal of pride in working with the Carters. The customer always comes first and the value of our products are unprecedented in the marketplace. Our approach is truly unique in this industry. That starts with the Carters and can be felt all the way to the porters checking your car in to service. The positivity is infectious!

Outside of work you will most
likely catch me with my family. My wife and I have been together for over
20 years and we have one son. As a matter of fact, she grew up on Queen
Anne with me and we have known each other since elementary school.
I also have a deep passion for fitness,
nutrition, wellness, and more specifically, the Martial Arts. I have been
studying Brazilian Jiu Jitsu since 1995, receiving my black belt in
2007. I have taught for the Gracie Barra Academy for several years and
recently a good friend and I have opened up our own school in Edmonds.
I have mentored and coached several local kids, many of whom are currently
employed by this company. I'm also involved in a local CrossFit gym.
With all that said, I have never met a dessert I didn't like!
Given my lifestyle, my personal integrity is very important to me. I am fortunate to work in an environment that fosters that core belief.
Brooklyn, NY born and raised, went to UNM in Albuquerque, New Mexico for a few years, then the University of California in Santa Cruz. After graduating from UC Santa Cruz in 1977 (Literature), I moved to San Francisco, and arrived in Seattle in 1986. And stayed. I've been in the car business since 1986 except for stint in the used book business, and at Carter Subaru since 1996. Hobbies and likes are literature and collecting first editions, cars, animals, cooking, internet, and Subarus Subarus Subarus. My goal is to offer an completely upfront, easy going and hassle-free car buying experience. References available.
My name is Matt Schwenke and I have
been in the automotive business since 2000. I started off my career selling
Dodge and Chrysler vehicles for about four years then moved on to Lexus
for six years and since then I have been with the Carter Subaru family,
and I have to say i'm having a blast. I am married to a wonderful woman
of 7yr's and can you believe it she still loves me, "weird huh".
We love to travel and go out to Restaurants, you know all that fun stuff
that married people do, oh yea and go to Maui where we got married. If
you would have asked me what I wanted to do when I was a kid I think
this would have been the last thing on my list. You see I usually don't
particularly enjoy going to Dealerships to experience the High pressure
sales approach from someone you feel you can't trust. So when
I decided to become a Car Salesman My goal was to be different.
If you want to work with someone with a laid back approach with no pressure
and someone who like to make this a FUN experience then give me a call,
I would love to work with you.
I was born in Anaheim, CA, I grew up in Seattle and Lynnwood, WA.
I have worked here since November of last year.
I enjoy playing and creating music, snowboarding, football and baseball.
I have worked in the automotive industry for nearly 8 years. I have done a mix of several different jobs including sales, management, finance and used cars. What I like most about our business is the pleasure that both customers and I feel after buying a car. Although car shopping is not 1st on most peoples list of "fun things to do", I believe our staff makes it a memorable and enjoyable experience. When I'm not at work, I enjoy my time off with my wife and two children. We are a busy bunch. My wife and I are PTA members at our children's co-op and I help coach their baseball and football teams while my wife is on the athletic board. These are the good things in life; this is why I do what I do.
