CV Axle Repair & Replacement Service in Seattle
The CV axle (short for constant-velocity axle, and sometimes known as a "half shaft") in your Subaru is an important part. It connects the wheels of your Subaru to the differential, allowing power from the engine to turn the wheels. Because the CV axle is articulated in order to help steer the vehicle, it's outfitted with a complex joint. But like all moving parts in a vehicle, this joint can wear down or fail.

Why Do CV Axles Break?
The CV axle joint has to be lubricated in order to work properly. To keep the oil from escaping or grit from getting in, the CV axle is protected by a rubber cover called a boot. If the boot is damaged, the lubricating oil will slowly leak out as debris gets in.

What Are the Signs of a Failing CV Axle?
If you hear a rhythmic knocking sound as you drive, it could be a sign of a failing CV axle. Another symptom is a loud clicking or popping noise when you turn; this is from the unlubricated joint. If you notice these symptoms, don't hesitate to come in; it may only be a short time before the axle fails entirely, and your Subaru is unable to move at all.
